Composition and goals for this class

In the past my compositions usually consisted of musical pieces. I took IB music theory class my junior year in high school. I had an assignment to compose a piece of music for string orchestra. I also play cello, piano, and guitar so playing them could be considered composing. Also I have composed poems and essays that were required for my English classes. Writing does not come natural to me, so usually I do only what I have to do. I have never really composed anything other than what I have had to do for classes. During this class I would like to be able to write about things that I enjoy so that I will want to put more effort into my writing. Usually in English classes I have taken in the past we would read a book and write an essay on the book. Not to mention the books are usually non engaging so it makes the essay much harder to do. This English class seems much more interesting to me and I hope to increase my writing skills exponentially.
